Building a hurdy gurdy (Symphony, actually): Part Three

Well, it’s done, and it works!

Mike decided he’d like to make the lid. So I gratefully accepted his help and he made this beautiful lid for the symphony.

photo-8 Next came some more drilling, for string holes. So that was another one for Mike (thanks, Mike).

photo-9I had a wonderful morning inserting all the key sliders, tangents and key-stops.

photo 1While shaping the bridge, we used cheap nylon strings in case they got damaged. The gut ones are more expensive.

photo 3Moment of truth…. with the correct strings. We had sounds! Now it’s time to learn to play it.

Watch out for the next few posts. Probably going to be Trying to play a hurdy gurdy parts one, two, three etc.
